According to legends, this salad was Queen Bona Sforza's favorite. She was an Italian princess who, in the 16th century, married the king Zygmunt Stary.

Apparently, she was fond of this salad, but eating it moved her to tears. She would cry from homesickness for her native Italy while eating it, because it reminded her of her homeland.

1 lb (450 gr) small tender cucumbers
Salt
1 bunch dill
2 1/2 tablespoons sour cream
1 teaspoon lemon juice
pinch of sugar

Peel the cucumbers. Slice the cucumber very thinly. Add salt, mix and let them set for about 5 minutes until softer. Chop the dill finely. Add it to the cucumbers. Combine the sour cream. Add a squeeze of lemon, pinch of salt, and mix. Taste and adjust salt, lemon, and sugar before serving.
